Step 2: Google analytics Calltracks Plugin for GTM Installations

If you have not already created a Custom Dimension please click here to see our setup guide. This must be complete before you can continue with this setup.

If Goggle Analytics (GA) has been implemented with GTM, additional changes have to be made. GTM does not currently support plugins in the default GA tag. Therefore, a custom HTML tag has to be created.

  1.     Create a new tag of type ‘Custom HTML’. Name it ‘GA Base’.
  2.     Go to your Google Analytics account and copy the JavaScript snippet.
  3.     Paste the JavaScript snippet into the input box in GTM.
  4.     Add the following line right before the pageview is sent. See the bold line below.

<script>

 (function(i,s,o,g,r,a,m){i['GoogleAnalyticsObject']=r;i[r]=i[r]||function(){

 (i[r].q=i[r].q||[]).push(arguments)},i[r].l=1*new Date();a=s.createElement(o),

 m=s.getElementsByTagName(o)[0];a.async=1;a.src=g;m.parentNode.insertBefore(a,m)

 })(window,document,'script','//www.google-analytics.com/analytics.js','ga');

 ga('create', 'UA-XXXXX-X', 'auto');

 ga('require', 'displayfeatures');

 ga('require', 'ctplugin', { slotNum: 1 });

 ga('send', 'pageview');

</script>

  1.     Set the tag to fire on ‘All Pages’. The screen shot below shows the entire tag setup.

  1.     Save the tag.
  2.     Remove your existing GA tag from GTM.
  3.     Publish the GTM container.

Once you have done it, go to settings -> Integrations and enter your custom dimension index ID for Calltracks session ID.  In this case is 1.
