GA4 Instructions

 

In order to have phone call data sent to GA4, you need to provide us with two pieces of information:

  1. Your measurement id
  2. An API secret key

To find these pieces of information, follow step 1.

 

You will also need three custom definitions these are made up of three custom dimensions.

  1. call_details = scope set to event
  2. location_details = scope set to event
  3. ct_visit_id = scope set to event

go to step 2 to understand the steps to take.

 

 

Step 1)

Measurement ID Set Up

To find your measurement id, you will need to login to GA4 and go to the admin section gear symbol at the bottom left of the screen (look for the icon below)

click on the data streams section (fourth option under the property/right-hand column)

 

Click on your website.

You will then be presented with the web stream details screen, we require the MEASUREMENT ID that will be a G followed by a string of numbers like "G-12ABC3DE4F" Please copy this id and pass this over to us in a support ticket.

Measurement Protocol Api Secrets Setup


Once you have provided us with the Measurement ID we will require the API secret key, to get this piece of info stay on the same screen you are on for the Measurement id and scroll down till you see the words measurement protocol API secrets, click this section

You will need to create a new API, by clicking on the Create button

You need to give the API a name we recommend below, once named, click create.

You will be present with the API secret value in the orange box screen copy and paste the secret value back to us.

To recap, send the measurement id and the API key to us via the knowledge base and we will handle the rest.

 

Step 2)

You will also need Three custom definitions. These are made up of Three custom dimensions called.

  1. call_details = scope set to event
  2. location_details = scope set to event
  3. ct_visit_id = scop set to event

Go to Admin

Under the property column, click on custom definitions

 Click Create Custom dimensions

To set up call_details

You will then see a box appear on the right, like the one below.

 

Enter the below details (Copy and paste the dimension name call_details into the event parameter field) and then save.

Then click on Create Custom dimensions

set up location_details

You will then see a box appear on the right, like the one below.

 

 

 

Enter the below details (Copy and paste the dimension name location_details into the event parameter field) and then save.

Repeating the steps from the previous two custom dimension setups, click Create Custom dimension 

 

set up ct_visit_id

You will then see a box appear on the right, like the one below

Enter the below details (Copy and paste the dimension name ct_visit_id into the event parameter field) and then save.

 

 

 

Once all the information has been provided to the Calltracks support team, the Calltracks support team confirm the GA4 push has been set up. After 24 hours, you can see the conversion in GA4 by going to configure > events, and you should see an event similar to the one below. You'll need to check this so you can record the events in GA4.
